Folk Dance Teachers Course
being offered by Riki Adivi

Next month, on May 5th I’m going to start my first Folk Dance Teachers Course.

In the course I would like us all to have an open discussion about everything that matters and is part of the dance class/session. For that purpose I have been gathering for quite some time all the wonders and questions that are part of the folk dance sessions.

We will start by gradually making ourselves more comfortable leading. So we will learn and practice learning a dance from a video, connect with the rhythm, lead the dance and provide cues while dancing. Later on we will cover all other aspects of teaching a dance.

We will also check our feelings, identifying the positive and negative feelings that we experience in the different sessions. We will then learn to create the desired environment, to make people welcomed, to teach dances and plan the program.

The classes will consist of discussion and dancing, and we will learn many dances that I do not teach in my regular classes. Anyone that will want to, will be able to practice teaching/leading/reviewing dances. Only positive feedback will be allowed and there will be no pressure to demonstrate.

You are welcome to join the course even if you don’t have any plans to run a class and to teach, and it is also OK if you will need to miss some classes. I think that by acquiring these skills in the course you may find yourself wanting to help in your current sessions.
