Report by Dorothy Archer
The late Theodor Vasilescu, master teacher of Romanian folk dancers, was honooured the afternoon of March 9th at a folk dance party held at the Agricola Finnish Lutheran Church in Toronto. Theodor attended Ontario folk dance camp several times with his wife and dance partner, Lia, and was always a favourite. Groups still do many of the dances he taught.
During the afternoon, Karen Bennett, Riki Adivi, Helga Hyde and Helen Winkler reviewed several of his dances (Hora din Campie, Hora Miressi, Roata Femeilor, Seriul, Joc in Patru) and Efrim Boritz narrated a 10 minute presentation which he and Naomi Fromstein had prepared from photos and videos taken during their trips to Romania to travel with Theodor.
Between 40-50 people attended the event. The programme consisted of well-known dances for the enjoyment of all and it was good to see some new dancers in the circle.
It was a pleasant afternoon and people left looking forward the next party in April.
